OECD/NEA International Conference on Global Nuclear Safety Enhancement

On 8 April 2014 in Tokyo, Japan, an international conference on enhancing global nuclear safety was held by the Nuclear Energy Agency(NEA) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development(OECD), in co-operation with the Nuclear Regulation Authority(NRA) of Japan.

Dr. Shunichi Tanaka, Chairman of NRA made opening remarks【PDF:116KB】. In his speech, he spoke about the importance of the independence, technical capability and transparency of the regulatory authorities, as well as a strong safety culture.

Mr. Kenzo Oshima, Commissioner of NRA chaired the conference, conducting the sessions and coordinating the conference.

Dr. Toyoshi Fuketa, Commissioner of NRA made a speech in the afternoon session, titled "Lessons Learned from the Fukushima Dai-ichi Accident and Responses in New Regulatory Requirements"【PDF:87KB】. He introduced current regulation in Japan as a response to the accident of TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.
