International Symposium on Nuclear Safety and Natural Disasters

The Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) pledges to “make decisions independently, based on the latest scientific and technological information, free from any outside pressure or bias.”. Drawing on the lessons learned from the accident at TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station, dealing with natural disasters, especially earthquakes and tsunamis are at the heart of sound scientific decision-making for nuclear safety regulation.

To share international views and opinions on this matter, the NRA will hold an international symposium on nuclear safety and natural disasters, inviting Prof. Macfarlane of George Washington University, who is the former chairperson of the Untited States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (US-NRC), to give a keynote lecture, followed by lectures and discussions including NRA commissioners and other experts in this field.
